2019 Dates: June 14 - 15 • 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. both days
$500 / $450 (members) tuition covers materials. Participants must attend both days.
Maximum of six students. For beginners and intermediate woodworkers.
For the first time, this extraordinary workshop brings small-group, hands-on woodworking to the Maloof-Inspired Workshop series!
Led by master woodworker Dennis Hays, originator of The Maloof’s rescued wood workshop in guitar-making, this course takes place on two consecutive days, providing a total of 16 hours of hands-on instruction and studio time, with the goal of building a small side table made of solid walnut.
Learn about designing for strength, selecting for grain and color, cutting, routing, shaping, sanding, finishing and more—and go home with a truly unique, hand-made treasure. Whether you keep it yourself or give it as a gift, the work rewards your labor with a one-of-a-kind keepsake, with family heirloom potential for generations to come.
Day Two follows with four more hours of instruction, followed by four hours of studio work. Class covers use of table saw, planer, band saw, drill press, routers, dadoes, Festool Domino machine, rasps, files, sandpaper, and finishing materials. A fabulous introduction to the making of fine art furniture!
Tuition includes wood and materials. Drinks and snacks are also provided, but please pack a lunch for each day’s 1-hour mid-day meal break, to be enjoyed in The Maloof’s olive tree-shaded courtyard, weather permitting. A truly unforgettable way to learn.
